While enrolled in course work that is interesting and fulfilling, many students invest their time out of class in the community through service programs. Programs for Undergraduate Students
America Counts, SUNY Geneseo
Geneseo students travel to Livingston County Elementary Schools to work with children struggling with Math skills. The bulk of the tutoring takes place in the Geneseo, Mt. Morris, Livonia, Avon, and Dansville school districts in K-6 classrooms. The tutors are placed with classroom teachers who decide which students will receive the services. Tutors work one on one or in small groups.
Preparation of Future Mathematics or Science Teachers in an Urban Setting, Monroe Community College
This project is designed to provide enrichment activities to EDU majors who have asserted an interest in teaching Math or Science in an urban setting. The week-long intensive 'institute' provides Math, Science, and pedagogical approaches to urban education.
Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science (PMACS) Scholars Program
Priming the Technology Pump, SUNY College at Brockport
This project is awards scholarships to academically talented first- and second-year students and supports the scholars through a variety of structures and programs on campus. Students are targeted for participation in three departments: physics, mathematics, and computer science. The students participate in mentoring activities both with faculty and with upper-division students in their respective departments. "UTeach" Program, University of Texas at Austin
The UTeach Institute was created to provide direction and leadership to expand and replicate the UTeach math and science teacher preparation program at qualified universities in the United States. By accomplishing this, the Institute will achieve its primary goal, which is increasing the quantity and quality of math and science teachers.
